THE BETA TERMS
Come in, but don't unpack.
Effective August 12, 2026. Overstayed.org is an experimental, invitation-only beta for adults age 18 and older. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Beta Terms, our Privacy notice, and the Platform Rules.
What this place is
Overstayed lets members create events and publish opinions, jokes, ratings, photos, and other member-supplied material. Ratings are opinions—not background checks, professional advice, verified facts, or instructions for managing Thanksgiving.
Your account and content
Use accurate registration information, protect your login, and take responsibility for activity under your account. Only post material you have the right and permission to share. You keep ownership of your content, while giving Overstayed a limited license to host, display, format, and distribute it as needed to operate the service.
Beta means beta
Features may change, break, disappear, or return wearing a different hat. The service is provided as available, without a promise that it will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, Overstayed is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses caused by member content or use of the beta.
The door remains ours
We may restrict, remove, preserve, or disclose content when reasonably necessary to operate the service, enforce these rules, protect people, respond to legal process, or investigate abuse. We may suspend accounts that create risk or repeatedly ignore the house rules. You may stop using the beta at any time.
PRIVACY, SUCH AS IT IS
Use a nickname. Keep your secrets secret.
We collect the information needed to run the beta: account and contact details, public profile choices, event participation, invitations, ratings, reports, uploaded content, and ordinary technical records such as device, browser, IP, and security logs.
How we use it
We use this information to authenticate members, deliver invitations, operate events and ratings, prevent abuse, respond to reports, improve the service, and comply with law. Private email addresses are for access and administration; your chosen username is the normal public-facing identity.
Analytics choices
Google Analytics helps us understand visits and improve the beta. Analytics storage is disabled unless you accept it in the privacy banner. Advertising storage, advertising user data, and ad personalization remain disabled. You can change your choice at any time using the Privacy choices button.
Who sees what
Event content may be visible to participants, Hosts, administrators, or the public depending on the event and profile settings. Vendors that provide hosting, email, storage, security, and database services may process information for us. We do not promise perfect anonymity, and we do not sell a magic invisibility cloak.
Be careful with pictures
Do not upload identifiable images, voices, locations, or personal details of children. Keep minors out of the shot. Limit recognizable faces and identifying backgrounds, and get permission from the adults shown before posting. Images may contain location metadata; remove it before uploading.
Control and contact
Use profile and event controls to limit visibility. Report material that exposes you or someone else, and we will review reasonable removal requests. Contact invites@overstayed.org for privacy or account requests. We use reasonable safeguards, but no online service can guarantee that information will never be copied, exposed, or retained elsewhere.
THE CODE WE LIVE BY
Sticks and stones. Also: don't be a monster.
“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me” is the spirit: take a joke, give a fair one, and do not weaponize the site. If that sounds impossible, use Google Places and rate your grandmother's house like we had to.
No doxing. No detective work.
Never publish a private address, phone number, email, workplace, school, precise location, legal name, financial detail, login information, or other identifying information without clear permission. Do not use clues from an event to identify, contact, follow, threaten, or embarrass someone elsewhere.
Rate behavior, not protected traits
No threats, stalking, harassment, hate speech, sexual exploitation, impersonation, scams, or encouragement of harm. Do not target people because of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or another protected characteristic. Funny is welcome. Cruelty wearing a party hat is still cruelty.
Keep it honest enough
Post genuine opinions about events you actually attended or know firsthand. Clearly ridiculous jokes may be ridiculous; false factual accusations, coordinated pile-ons, revenge posts, and manipulated ratings are not. Hosts and administrators may correct attribution, but nobody gets to rewrite another member's opinion.
Faces, kids, and the forever-machine
Get permission before posting adults. Do not post identifiable children. We will do what we reasonably can to restrict doxing and maintain member privacy, and we require you to do the same. If something goes wrong, report it and we will review it for removal—but remember: once something reaches the interwebs, copies may last forever. Thank goodness some of us grew up in the seventies.
Report first; retaliate never
Use the report control or email us. Do not answer a bad post with another violation. Serious or repeated abuse may lead to content removal, lost invitations, suspended access, or permanent departure compliance.
